(PRN) Research Assistant - Phase 1 [EMT]
About the role
Alcanza is a growing multi-site, multi-phase clinical research company with a network of locations across multiple states and Puerto Rico. We specialize in Phase I-IV studies across therapeutic areas including vaccine, neurology, dermatology, psychiatry, and general medicine. The Research Assistant - Phase 1 provides support to Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs), Site Manager, Principal and Sub Investigators, and other site staff in compliance with GCP, ICH, HIPAA, FDA Regulations, and SOPs.
The Research Assistant performs clinical, lab, and administrative tasks essential for the successful operation of Phase 1 studies and the clinical research site.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the execution of assigned studies and support functions in collaboration with the clinical research site team.
- Supports basic screening of patients for study enrollment and patient follow-up visits.
- Documents in source clinic charts and enters data in EDC, addressing queries as needed.
- Obtains vital signs and ECGs, and performs basic procedures per protocol, including:
- Medication management
- Blood specimen collection
- Centrifuge operation
- Accountability of specimens
- Storing and shipping of lab specimens
- Notification of courier for specimen pick-up
- Requests and tracks medical record requests.
- Assists the CRC with updating and maintaining logs, filing in charts, and general chart filing.
- Schedules subjects for study visits, conducts appointment reminders, and reschedules visits as needed.
- Ensures study-related reports and patient results are reviewed by the Research Coordinator and/or investigator in a timely manner.
- Assists the CRC and/or Manager with study recruitment, patient enrollment, and tracking.
- Maintains a positive, results-oriented work environment, builds partnerships within the team, and models teamwork.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patients, employees, customers, and company information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Performs all other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements
- A Medical Assistant diploma or CMA, LPN, LVN, or EMT credential and 1+ years of clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in performing basic clinical procedures such as blood pressure, vitals, EKGs, and phlebotomy.
- BLS / ACLS certification required.
- Bi-lingual (English / Spanish) proficiency is a plus.
Skills
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, email, electronic health records, and web applications.
- Ability to type proficiently (40+ wpm).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills; ability to work well independently and collaboratively with co-workers, subjects, managers, and external customers.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, adapt to changes in workloads and priorities, and work under minimal supervision.
- Professional, respectful, self-motivated, and possessing a strong work ethic.
- High degree of integrity, dependability, and ability to handle highly sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
