St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a PRN Registered Dietitian to join our team.

About the Role

Responsible for nutritional management and care of patients according to physician diagnoses. Performs as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Reviews the interdisciplinary screening process and assigns a priority level of risk for patients. Participates in providing patient-specific care standards and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, including attendance, mandatory education, safety, and infection control.
  • Assesses patient’s nutritional status according to established standards and obtains necessary information from the medical record.
  • Develops nutritional care plans for patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, geriatric, and terminally ill patients, based on cultural orientation.
  • Evaluates the results of nutritional intervention to determine the need to revise the plan of care.
  • Communicates patient’s nutritional status by consulting with the physician when appropriate.
  • Provides nutritional teaching and counseling to patients and families to support desired changes in eating habits.
  • Assists in orienting and training new employees to the department.
  • Ensures documentation meets standards and policies.
  • Assesses and counsels outpatients (renal transplant and diabetes center) per department nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Participates in department-required tray assessments, test trays, and patient visitations.
  • Assists in department meetings to train staff on diets.
  • Reflects the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
  • Adheres to SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or a Culinary-related field of study, with completion of a Didactic or coordinated program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian or eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration; must obtain Licensed Dietitian status with the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians within 90 days of initial employment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nutrition experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
  • Computer skills, including experience with Meditech electronic charting (preferred).
  • Must demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives and comply with all safety protocols.
  • Flexible, organized, and able to function effectively under stressful situations.
  • Current ServSafe Food Handler Permit, Travis County Health Department Food Handler Card, or State Food Safety permit (preferred).

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a 460+ bed, multi-specialty, acute care hospital providing comprehensive medical care at two locations: St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and St. David’s Surgical Hospital. Services include:

  • Advanced women’s health services, including maternity and newborn care with Level I, II, and III NICUs at the nearby St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas.
  • Minimally invasive gynecological surgery and comprehensive breast imaging through Solis Mammography.

  • 95+ bed Level III NICU with private rooms, specialized care for very small babies, and neurological care.
  • 35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including low-intervention birthing suites with tubs.
  • 95+ postpartum beds, 20+ antepartum beds, and Cesarean section surgical suites.
  • 24/7 neonatology coverage, OB/GYN hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, and a midwifery program.
  • Part of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network and TexasAIM.

St. David’s Surgical Hospital is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It includes:

  • 24-hour emergency department, medical-surgical inpatient unit, and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under.
  • Pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists trained to care for children.
  • Certified child-life specialists to help children feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.
  • Pediatric services such as surgery, radiology, anesthesia, and a wide range of pediatric specialists.
