PRN Pharmacy Technician

Requirements

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Nationally accredited (PTCB or ExCPT) Pharmacy Technician certification.
• Current certification and eligibility to work Nationwide.
• Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is preferred and may be required for some deployments.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years CPhT experience in either hospital or community pharmacy required.

Required ICS Courses:

• ICS 100 – Introduction to Incident Command Systems
• ICS 200 – ICS for single resources and Initial Action Incidents
• ICS 700 – National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) and Introduction
• ICS 800 – National Response Framework, An Introduction
• ICS 300 – Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents (must be completed upon hire or within 3 months)
• ICS 400 – Advanced ICS Command and General Staff – Complex Incidents (must be completed upon hire or within 3 months)

Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.
• Foster a culture that encourages team members to work safely, identify potential hazards, and report safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain active status within the agency’s platforms, including learning management systems for required training.
• Execute assigned pharmacy services as prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician, including medication inventory, storage, distribution, and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and act as a liaison between pharmacy and medical staff.
• Maintain adequate inventory of medications/supplies, ensuring they are within date and properly stored.
• Dispose of unused and expired medications according to established protocols.
• Maintain electronic/paper medical health care records as required by event/deployment.
• Develop and maintain an accurate medication administration record (MAR) for each client and assist in daily MAR audits.
• Report all medication errors utilizing the chain of command.
• Compile daily medical lists and distribute to designated staff.
• Maintain first aid kits per licensing standards, if applicable.
• Assist in medication intake/discharge processes in collaboration with other medical staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Understand and recognize signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and inappropriate behavior, and implement professional response and reporting procedures.
• Maintain active status in the agency’s web-based learning management system for required trainings.
• Maintain and produce all required professional certifications, licensures, or military discharge documents upon request.
• Pass a clear NCIC, CAN background check for specific deployments, if required.
• Adhere to professional integrity and accountability standards, complying with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Provide proof of a valid driver’s license and a driving record in good standing (subject to annual review).
• Demonstrate ability to:
  • Respond sensitively and competently to cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the service population.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, professionals, and clients.
  • Maintain professional people skills and non-verbal communication.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and making decisions based on program needs.
  • Maintain intermediate to advanced computer literacy (specifically Microsoft Suite).
  • Be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team without intensive supervision.
  • Utilize various communication systems (cellular, two-way radio, satellite, etc.).
  • Perform physical activities such as walking, stretching, bending, and occasionally lifting over 50 lbs.
  • Work extended or non-traditional hours (e.g., weekends, evenings, holidays, in austere conditions).
• Provide a current physical-medical release and proof of immunizations, exemptions, or declinations for:
  • Influenza
  • MMR
  • Varicella
  • HepB
  • HepA
  • Tetanus
  • PPD, IGRA, or Chest X-ray
  • Meningococcal (preferred)
• Successfully pass scheduled or spontaneous drug screening and background checks.
