About the Role

As a PACU Registered Nurse, you will provide critical immediate post-operative care to surgical patients, including airway support, neurological and cardiac monitoring, wound care, and complication management. This role requires on-call availability during select non-business hours, including overnight call roughly 2 times per month and every 7th weekend (alternating day and night shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, examinations, and clinical data reviews.
  • Identify potential crisis situations and intervene proactively to manage complexity and uncertainty.
  • Reassess patient status at established intervals and as conditions change.
  • Analyze patient data to identify nursing diagnoses and patient care needs.
  • Communicate patient status and needs to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and update individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues in developing and implementing care plans.
  • Perform technical skills safely and competently as required by the clinical unit.
  • Coordinate and implement medical diagnostic and therapeutic orders.
  • Anticipate and manage complications related to disease progression and invasive procedures.
  • Document care plans, assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Report patient status and changes to appropriate team members.
  • Maintain a calm, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and families, advocating as needed.
  • Adhere to safety, organizational, and ethical standards per the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Implement core measures in conjunction with Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Identify trends impacting patient outcomes and allocate system resources effectively.
  • Manage complex clinical procedures and guide colleagues in best practices.
  • Employ critical thinking to solve problems and achieve patient outcomes.
  • Identify needs for innovative nursing practices, policies, procedures, or guidelines.
  • Utilize research as a resource in clinical practice and stay current with new evidence.
  • Serve as a resource and trainer for colleagues on competencies, policies, and clinical practices.
  • Use the change process to improve patient care, work environment, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN strongly preferred.
  • Specialty certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 9 months of nursing experience.

Schedule

  • 2-3 ten-hour shifts weekly.
  • Overnight call approximately 2 times per month.
