PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist - Microbiology - UH Truman Medical Center (varied shifts)

PRN (as-needed) position with varied shifts at University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

About the role

Performs tests on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Technologist Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations. May be assigned to work in a specialized section within the Microbiology department.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on blood and body fluids
• Document test results and prepare reports of daily work
• Interact with hospital personnel
• Rotate shifts, work weekends, and holidays as required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science
• ASCP (or equivalent) certification in one or more specialty areas of the laboratory, or
• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science and completion of an AMA-approved laboratory training program, eligible for ASCP certification, or
• Completion of an approved government training program, eligible for ASCP certification
• Verbal communication skills to interact with hospital personnel
• Writing skills and computer aptitude
• Ability to stand for long periods
• Must meet CLIA ’88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
