PRN Hospital Pharmacist

Health System Pharmacy at Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at PAM Rehab Hospital of Henderson. We are recruiting for a PRN Pharmacist to cover PTO, vacation, sick time, and on-call after hours. The facility operates Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

About the role

The Pharmacist II adjusts and dispenses medication to patients and ensures the compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy. This role verifies physician orders, adjusts dosages according to protocols, provides patient education, supervises Pharmacy Technicians, and manages compliance tasks related to accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Applies expert knowledge of drugs and protocols to verify physician orders using the pharmacy information system.
• Checks drug and dose in relation to patient conditions and addresses automated system alerts regarding drug type, dose, and other metrics.
• Supervises Pharmacy Technicians to ensure compliant and efficient pharmacy operations, checks their work per State Boards of Pharmacy regulations, and provides guidance on complex prescriptions and systems.
• Adjusts dosages based on established protocols, ensuring appropriateness for the patient’s condition and other medications, and completes clinical tasks related to antimicrobial stewardship.
• Educates patients on proper medication use, especially for new regimens, multiple medications, or at discharge.
• Manages narcotics and inventory control, including documentation, checklists, and auditing outdated medication where applicable.
• Contacts nurses and physicians to verify orders and obtain additional information.
• Assists the Pharmacy Director in maintaining accreditation and implementing operational changes, such as new systems or procedures.

Qualifications

• Licensed, “good standing” pharmacist in the state of Nevada required.
• In-patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Flexibility to work various shifts and on-call as needed.
• IV experience preferred.
• Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Manual dexterity for occasional reach, lifting, and holding of small objects.
• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems.
• Customer/vendor credentialing required (may include vaccinations).

Pay

Anticipated hourly range: $48.70 – $69.60 per hour. Bonus eligible: No.
