PRN Hospital Pharmacist

Health System Pharmacy at Cardinal Health manages pharmacy operations for acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care, alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices, and retail customers. This role supports AMG Specialty Hospital - Oklahoma City, focusing on weekend and on-call coverage, with additional weekday shifts as needed for PTO and holiday coverage. Hours are Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM and weekends 8AM-12PM.

About the role

The Pharmacist II ensures the safe and efficient operation of the pharmacy by verifying physician orders, adjusting medications according to protocols, and providing patient education. This role supervises Pharmacy Technicians, manages compliance tasks, and supports pharmacy accreditation and operational changes.

Responsibilities

• Applies expert knowledge of drugs and protocols to verify physician medication orders using the pharmacy information system.
• Checks drug type, dose, and patient-specific metrics, addressing automated system alerts.
• Supervises Pharmacy Technicians to ensure compliant and efficient pharmacy operations, reviewing their work per State Boards of Pharmacy regulations.
• Adjusts medication dosages based on established protocols, considering patient conditions and other medications.
• Completes clinical tasks related to antimicrobial stewardship.
• Educates patients on medication use, effects, and interactions, particularly for new regimens or discharge.
• Manages narcotics and inventory control, including documentation, checklists, and audits of outdated medication.
• Communicates with nurses and physicians to verify orders and gather additional information.
• Assists the Pharmacy Director in maintaining accreditation and implementing operational changes, such as new systems or procedures.

Qualifications

• Licensed pharmacist in good standing in Oklahoma or willing to obtain licensure.
• In-patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and on-call.
• IV experience preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Strong communication skills to interact with customers and healthcare professionals.
• Manual dexterity for occasional reaching, lifting, and handling small objects.
• Proficiency in learning and operating multiple pharmacy information systems.
• May require vendor credentialing.

Pay

Anticipated hourly range: $50.10 - $71.70 per hour. Bonus eligible: No.
