PRN Clinician

About the role

The Clinician uses sound professional judgment and best practices to support the mental health, safety and well-being of every resident in care while maintaining compliance with established state and federal standards and requirements. Provides trauma-informed, culturally competent mental health support services to individuals and families displaced by hurricanes during mass care shelter activations. Clinicians help mitigate emotional distress, support coping and stabilization, and facilitate referrals for higher levels of care when needed. Services are delivered in coordination with shelter teams, healthcare partners, and county emergency management staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support services for general population disaster shelters
  • Provide psychological first aid (PFA), crisis counseling, and brief therapeutic interventions to evacuees
  • Assess for signs of emotional distress, anxiety, trauma, or severe mental illness
  • Support individuals experiencing grief, disorientation, or substance use-related concerns
  • De-escalate tense or disruptive situations in coordination with shelter staff and security
  • Provide mental health emergency assessments and evaluations
  • Apply crisis response, trauma informed care, harm reduction principles, acute mental health de-escalation techniques
  • Follow public health protocols as appropriate to the community
  • Conduct behavioral health screenings and determine appropriate levels of support
  • Refer clients to medical, psychiatric, substance use, or community services as needed
  • Maintain accurate case notes, incident logs, and behavioral observations in compliance with shelter documentation protocols
  • Coordinate with shelter management, disaster medical staff, case management, and security teams
  • Participate in briefings, debriefings, and behavioral health strategy planning
  • Provide consultation and stress management support to shelter staff and volunteers as needed
  • Provide case consultations, one-to-one counseling and/or crisis intervention for children, and family counseling for each family represented
  • Conduct intake interviews and initial assessments
  • Record relevant clinical data and report clinical information as required
  • Ensure client confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA and disaster response guidelines
  • Support the safe accommodation of individuals with behavioral health or cognitive impairments
  • Maintain accurate and current records and files
  • Communicate effectively with referral sources and providers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: Must have a Master's of Social Work with clinical experience in the program; or Master's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science in which direct clinical experience is a program requirement.

Experience: Clinician must be licensed LPC, LMHC, LMFT, LCSW, LPC-I, LMFT-A, or LMSW or eligible for licensure preferred in State of Florida. 2+ year clinical related experience and/or training including experience working in crisis intervention. Proficiency in Spanish/English (written and spoken language skills), required. Preferred experience in working with vulnerable populations.

Certifications: Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) Core Curriculum Courses:

  • IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100
  • IS-0200.c Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS 200
  • IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction

Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.

Licenses: Driver's License with a clear record.

Vehicle: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

Other: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
