PRM Licensed Practical Nurse, CHS, On Call

About the Role

Performs advanced practical nursing work in the care and treatment of patients in assigned medical areas. Emphasis is on specialized and responsible duties in patient care, assisting physicians and nurses, and performing instructional tasks.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients about current problems, medications, and allergies; reviews medical records for pertinent information.
• Keeps patients informed of their medical condition and prescribed treatment by an MD.
• Participates in patient treatment regimens, including administering medications under physician and RN supervision.
• Establishes and documents patient treatment regimens under RN or MD supervision and implements treatment as directed.
• Performs routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, visual acuity testing, and administers/reads TB tests.
• Assists in phlebotomy: identifies patients, checks requisition forms, prepares equipment, and readies puncture sites.
• Assists in IV set-up: verifies solutions, evaluates infusion sites, checks IV function, ensures patient comfort, and discontinues IV as ordered.
• Maintains inventory of narcotics, examination room supplies, and prepares exam rooms between patient contacts.
• Performs office responsibilities: answers phones, takes messages, and performs triage within LPN scope.
• Facilitates and coordinates patient referrals.
• Participates in orientation and training of new personnel.
• Adjusts work pace to maintain or improve patient care outcomes.
• Follows unit-specific policies and procedures as detailed on competency checklists.
• Utilizes job and unit-specific equipment as required.

• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited LPN program.
• Valid Florida LPN license.
• American Heart Association BLS certification with 6 months validity (additional life support certifications may be required at the unit level).
• 30-hour IV training from a Florida Board of Nursing-approved program or Compact Nursing State.

Experience

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Working Conditions

• Physical Requirements: Extended standing or walking; carrying objects weighing 21–50 pounds; lifting/moving objects weighing 51–100 pounds with assistance; frequent visual acuity for computer use.
• Environmental Conditions: Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure or emergent situations; diverse interactions with team members, providers, patients, and the public; exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other hospital/medical office hazards (e.g., needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-rays, chemicals). Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in infectious/clinical settings.
