Pay

Salary range of $1,406.00 - $1,586.00 per Equated Contact Hour (ECH).

About the Role

Parkland College is seeking to hire Part-Time Music Instructors to advise, mentor, and teach assigned students in a one-on-one capacity for the following instruments: voice, violin, upright bass, and flute. The instructor meets with assigned students on a weekly basis for private lessons to prepare students for their end-of-year recital. Hiring is based on enrollment, and courses may be scheduled during days, evenings, weekends, or online. This is an on-campus, part-time appointment covered by the Parkland College Part-Time Faculty collective bargaining unit.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college.
  • Provides private lessons in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college.
  • Informs students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other pertinent information; prepares and distributes a course syllabus for each course early in the term.
  • Is available for student advising and mentoring.
  • Maintains regular office hours for student consultation and provides timely assistance to students.
  • Maintains accurate scholastic records of students and submits required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in music or music education, OR a Master’s in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in music.
  • Ability to learn the Parkland information system and adapt to new programs as technology changes.
  • Maintains all professional credentials required to teach in the area of discipline.
  • Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting, including review of exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • Candidates must either not be a SURS annuitant or be willing to suspend their SURS annuity upon employment (excludes those receiving annuity under the Self-Managed Plan or by lump-sum payment).
