About the role

We are seeking a Private Client Services Associate or Counsel to advise high-net-worth individuals, families, and closely held entities on estate planning, tax planning, and trust matters. The role focuses on delivering sophisticated, practical solutions for wealth transfer, tax minimization, and fiduciary administration while collaborating with tax advisors and other practice teams to provide comprehensive client service.

Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on estate planning strategies, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, charitable giving, and wealth transfer techniques.
  • Designing and implementing tax-efficient structures for individuals, family offices, and closely held businesses, coordinating with tax advisors to optimize federal and state tax outcomes.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating estate planning documents, trust instruments, powers of attorney, and related transactional agreements with precision and attention to client objectives.
  • Counseling trustees, executors, and beneficiaries on fiduciary duties, trust administration, probate matters, and ongoing compliance obligations.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis on estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer (GST), and income tax issues to support client recommendations and planning memoranda.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across tax, corporate, real estate, and litigation teams to advise on multi-disciplinary matters and ensure cohesive client service.
  • Managing client relationships, including client intake, status updates, billing oversight, and responsiveness to client inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and paralegals, delegating tasks, reviewing work product, and contributing to team development and practice growth.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Prior experience (typically 5+ years) advising high-net-worth individuals or families at a law firm or in a private client setting; candidates at both associate and counsel levels will be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in tax planning, estate planning, trusts, fiduciary administration, and related taxation matters.
  • Strong drafting skills with experience preparing wills, trust agreements, charitable planning documents, and tax-sensitive transactional documents.
  • Solid understanding of federal and state gift, estate, GST, and income tax rules; experience collaborating with CPAs or holding a dual degree/credential (e.g., LLM in Taxation or CPA) is a plus.
  • Excellent client service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex legal and tax concepts to clients clearly.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple matters concurrently, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail, professional judgment, and ethical standards appropriate for handling sensitive client information.

Qualifications
