Print Production Operator-Manager

About the role
ARC Document Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Production Manager for our Memphis, TN location. This role combines leadership responsibilities with hands-on production work, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient workflow, and high-quality output. You will lead a team that processes wide-format and small-format documents using printing, scanning, bindery, and finishing equipment, and will also personally support production tasks such as printing and distributing drawings, specifications, and graphics.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Staff Development
- Hire, train, evaluate, and develop personnel to ensure consistent quality and maximum productivity.
- Direct and motivate the workforce to meet production goals and customer expectations.
- Manage staff performance and ensure adherence to company standards and safety requirements.
- Operational Management
- Plan and direct production activities, establishing priorities based on customer needs, workload, and equipment capabilities.
- Maintain personnel and equipment readiness to deliver high-quality output.
- Implement and maintain operational quality control systems.
- Own the fiscal and operational aspects of the service center.
- Strategize techniques to maximize productivity and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Customer Service & Production Support
- Troubleshoot and resolve problematic orders and customer concerns.
- Communicate with customers throughout production to keep them informed of job status.
- Perform production tasks including:
- Processing in-person, phone, email, and electronic work orders.
- Printing and distributing drawings, specifications, and graphics.
- Operating wide-format and small-format printers, scanners, and finishing equipment.
- Inspecting work for accuracy, sharpness, density, count, and size.
- Preparing packages for UPS, FedEx, and courier shipments.
- Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Submit all branch reports on time.
- Manage and update invoices, process orders, oversee shipping/receiving, and track inventory.
- Assist in other departments as needed.
- Notify management when materials are low and require reordering.
- Production Operator Responsibilities (Integrated)
- Receive, process, and maintain orders for reprographic and finishing services.
- Review and understand work orders prior to starting each job.
- Process PDF files received via email, walk-in, delivery, or other methods.
- Use various equipment/machinery to complete jobs to exact customer specifications.
- Scan hard-copy documents to digital files following standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area between jobs.
- Work additional non-traditional hours as needed to meet deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 1–2 years of related experience; equivalent combinations accepted.
- 3–5 years of progressive, hands-on management experience in reprographics, print, or color production preferred.
- Experience in a print shop, reprographics, or sign production environment strongly preferred.
- Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with internal teams and external customers.
- Ability to confidently promote ARC’s products and services.
- Strong decision-making skills with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with computers and ability to learn required software and production systems.
- Ability to lift up to 52 lbs.
