Principal Wastewater Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive wastewater characterizations based on industrial practices, processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and evaluate potential improvements in treatment processes and equipment to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Conduct wastewater treatment process calculations and assist in process modeling to properly size and configure treatment processes.
- Conduct hydraulic calculations and develop system head curves for designing pumping systems.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for projects to ensure economic feasibility and optimal resource allocation.
- Design layouts and specifications for treatment system improvements, including equipment, pumps, piping, tanks, chemical feed systems, and process monitoring and control systems in collaboration with technical experts and other design disciplines.
- Evaluate and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; prepare and submit regulatory permit applications as needed.
- Assist in construction-related activities including reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, preparing RFPs, tracking project progress, reviewing contractor pay applications, and advising the owner on discrepancies and changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is required.
- Professional Engineers (PE) License is required.
- 8+ years of engineering experience in the water and/or wastewater disciplines, with specific expertise in industrial wastewater treatment design.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, regional, and federal regulatory requirements related to water and wastewater.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong problem-solving and operational skills.
- Client coordination and collaboration experience are essential.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, including occasional overnight stays.
Pay
T&M Associates estimates that the salary range for this position will fall between $105,000 - $135,000. The actual salary offered may vary within this range, depending on a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, educational qualifications, specific skills and knowledge, as well as internal pay equity and geographic location.
