Water/Wastewater Engineering Principal
About the role
This position involves developing a group of engineers and scientists to conduct water and wastewater projects and directing business development efforts to bring in new clients and expand work with existing clients. The role will be based in the Houston or Austin area and report to Texas Operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a team of engineers and scientists to execute water and wastewater projects.
- Manage projects involving municipal and private sector manufacturing water and wastewater systems, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, water storage tanks, biological and physical/chemical wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, sewer interceptors and collection systems.
- Direct and mentor junior staff, educating them on design parameters, plant layout, project integration, and regulatory criteria.
- Interface with clients, contractors, local government officials, state government officials, and regulators throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual and design phases to construction and completion.
- Achieve project goals by attracting, hiring, and developing staff to build a robust water/wastewater practice.
- Contribute to the expansion of the water and wastewater services practice serving municipal, petrochemical, refining, midstream, and manufacturing clients in the Texas Gulf Coast.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering field; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 15 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Experience with water treatment facility development, including evaluations, audits, design basis development, treatability testing, technology evaluations, technology selection, treatability testing, technology demonstrations, project development, project management, budgetary cost estimates, and project budgeting.
- Ability to interface with clients, network, and develop business.
- Experience with operations, including WWTP performance evaluations, audits, optimization, data management, and ongoing operations data review.
- Experience with standard operating procedures (SOP) development, operator training, and obtaining Texas Water Operator’s licenses.
- Experience with startup assistance, troubleshooting, upset response, authoring reports, and permit applications.
Qualifications
- P.E. in Texas.
- Knowledge of regulatory criteria and compliance.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with project management software and tools.
