About the role

Respawn Entertainment is the Academy Award-winning studio behind critically acclaimed multi-platform games Apex Legends, Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Star Wars™ Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars™ Jedi: Survivor, and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. As a Principal Technical Artist on the Apex Legends team, you will design and deliver future-forward content creation workflows, working within the technical art team’s pipeline group to field requests, collaborate with stakeholders and engineering, build and test solutions, and integrate them back into the wider art team.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration: Meet regularly with end-users to identify challenges and opportunities; educate the team on systems, set best practices, and drive adoption; build and lead multi-disciplinary coalitions across organizational boundaries.
  • Pipeline and Tool Development: Design, build, and maintain art pipelines and custom tools; automate testing and validation of workflows; optimize slow processes and procedures.
  • Technical Support: Learn proprietary systems and make them accessible; troubleshoot unknown issues and lead problem solving in complex situations.
  • Asset Management: Help teams transition content to newer workflows and, when needed, automate adapting content to meet new requirements.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional game development experience.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing tools and workflows from upstream content creation applications to runtime.
  • High proficiency with programming in DCC tools (Python, MEL, C#) or similar languages and UI frameworks (Qt).
  • Familiarity with third-party software used for content creation (Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Cloud suite).
  • Strong interest in content creation workflows, techniques, and innovation.
  • Experience building and supporting a large workflow/tool through the ship of a title or season.

Pay Transparency – North America Compensation and Benefits

Pay ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of posting. Actual pay will be determined based on relevant business and candidate factors.

  • British Columbia (e.g., Vancouver vs. Victoria): $141,400 – $204,400 CAD
  • California (e.g., Los Angeles vs. San Francisco): $165,000 – $256,000 USD

In the US, benefits include paid time off (3 weeks/year to start), 80 hours/year sick time, 16 paid company holidays, 10 weeks paid bonding time, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k). Certain roles may be eligible for bonus and incentive programs.

In Canada, benefits include vacation (3 weeks/year to start), 10 days/year sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP for new parents (12 weeks maternity, 4 weeks parental/adoption), extended health/dental/vision, life insurance, disability insurance, and retirement plans. Certain roles may be eligible for bonus and incentive programs.
