Principal Systems Controls Engineer IV

This position reports to the System Automation and Controls Department and is responsible for leading the full product lifecycle of MCC burn-in systems by customizing power delivery systems to meet customer expectations, producing schematics, selecting machine control hardware, integrating automation solutions, creating design verifications, and supporting field service in power and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full product lifecycle of the power delivery system, including conceptualization, development of prototypes, testing, and finalizing designs.
  • Produce system schematics, panel layouts, wire lists, bill of materials, and procedures to support operations.
  • Select and specify machine control hardware, including programmable logic controllers and all related modules and interconnected I/O devices.
  • Lead conversations with customers directly to clarify power requirements and customize power delivery systems to meet customer expectations.
  • Serve as the leading technical expert for electrical machine safety standards, industrial power interconnection with building, and automation equipment.
  • Create design verifications and manufacturing tests to confirm the functionality of electrical and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot with Production and Purchasing to solve unforeseen problems with product design, implementation, and product components.
  • Partner with Sales and Field Service to support customer issues and develop necessary Engineering and Field Change Notices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to determine the root cause of errors and develop corrective action plans.
  • Communicate engineering information across teams and departments to facilitate successful completion of large-scale projects.
  • Provide technical support to junior team members and review project schematic work, as necessary.
  • Lead initial and ongoing design reviews.
  • Perform all other related duties as requested or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial system design and power control.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial power systems.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safety Standards (one or more of: NFPA 79, NFPA 70, IEC 60204, SEMI S22, UL508).
  • Thorough understanding of modern electronic systems and component materials.
  • Capacity to analyze a problem from multiple perspectives and explore creative solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple departments.
  • Experience designing and developing electromechanical assemblies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automation of industrial electromechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP Systems and Manufacturing Systems.
