Principal Automation Systems Engineer IV

About the role

As a Principal Automation Systems Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, and sustain automation solutions and advanced IIoT / Industry 4.0 technologies in support of manufacturing. This includes creating automation solutions for manufacturing equipment and integrating them with business systems using tools such as Splunk, Ignition, or Aegis Factory Logix.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with program and factory customers to identify, develop, and define manufacturing automation and digital solutions.
• Support early 'New Product Introduction' activities, including Design for Manufacturing engagements to shape Raytheon products and automation solutions.
• Continuously improve, upgrade, and sustain deployed automation systems using core automation skills, including data gathering from equipment and creating actionable human and automated actions for production flow.
• Collaborate with the factory to identify, develop, and deploy process automation systems and digital solutions.
• Provide technical leadership through early project phases (ideation through project definition) and continued technical guidance after transition to the project execution team.
• Engage in the full Industry 4.0 project lifecycle—from requirements generation to technical project management to execution and sustainment of automation projects.
• Provide technical leadership and development for early-career Industry 4.0 team members.

Requirements

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience (or 6 years with an applicable MS degree).
• U.S. citizenship and an active, transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance required prior to start.
• Experience with Ignition, Splunk, or Aegis Factorylogix development.
• Experience with Python, C#, Powershell, or other scripting languages.
• Data analysis experience and understanding of database administration in SQL.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DOD Secret Clearance.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience deploying complex IIoT-based systems.
• Professional experience with the full lifecycle deployment and integration of automation systems.
• Knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and electrical compliances.
• Experience with control systems design (AutoCAD preferred).
• Manufacturing experience in Microelectronics or Circuit Card Assembly.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
