Principal Systems Administrator
About the role
We are seeking a Principal Systems Administrator with a focus on Microsoft Windows and VMware infrastructure support. This individual contributor role requires collaboration with peers, internal customers, and management to strengthen the consistency and standardization of IT infrastructure services, achieving operational excellence and program success.
Responsibilities
- Interface with internal customers, security, and management teams to maintain production systems and resolve issues with services and physical systems.
- Install, maintain, and support multiple Windows-based workstations and servers on physical and virtual platforms in support of program initiatives.
- Support engineering applications.
- Execute troubleshooting skills to address stability objectives both reactively and proactively.
- Maintain a secure computing environment, including adherence to backup schedules, patching, virus updates, and regular security scanning and remediation.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units, and the Company.
- Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements
- BS in Information Technology or a related technical field plus 6 or more years of related experience; or HS Diploma plus 10 or more years of related experience.
- Each higher-level degree (Master’s Degree or Ph.D.) may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the US Secretary of Education or US Department of Education.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and project management/project coordination skills.
- Expertise in planning, configuring, maintaining, patching, and monitoring in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Strong expertise with Intel-based server class and workstation hardware.
- Expertise with VMware virtualization products (vSphere ESXi, vCenter, vRealize Operations Manager).
- Strong documentation skills, organization skills, and the ability to interact cross-functionally with team members.
- Expertise with Microsoft Active Directory, including domain administration, creating/testing/implementing group policies, and maintaining user and computer objects.
- Expertise troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and related connectivity issues.
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and execution.
- DoD 8570 compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Linux servers, scripting, and support.
- Experience with software license management tools.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters.
- Experience with engineering applications such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS HFSS.
- Experience with specialized network environments (air-gapped, limited access).
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $118,095 – $200,762. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
