About the Role

Principal System Administrators (internally known as Principal Analyst, Infrastructure Workplace Services) collaborate with a diverse team to support critical programs with classified information system capabilities. In this role, you will develop, implement, and maintain secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex IT infrastructure problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide System Administration in a heterogeneous Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 & 9 environment.
  • Utilize virtualization and containerization technologies, including VMware vCenter, vSphere, Horizon, ESXi, KVM, Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Collaborate with engineers, software developers, systems administrators, storage, networking, and high-performance computing teams to resolve complex infrastructure and integration challenges.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous compliance with regulatory and security frameworks such as DFARS, RMF, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Provide critical, on-site support for mission systems in a closed DoD area, responding to both planned and emergent tasks, with occasional work outside standard hours and up to 10% travel as required.
  • Obtain and maintain DoD 8140 / 8570 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to support business needs, including adjusting to shift changes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain interim U.S. government-issued security clearance prior to start date.
  • Linux or Windows experience.
  • Experience with server architectures and troubleshooting methods.
  • Experience in one of the following: Active Directory, VMware, MySQL, or networking administration.
  • Experience with secure system configurations, system hardening, application settings, and tailoring Linux environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, teamwork, communication (written and oral), collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Deep experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its ecosystem, including authentication and identity services (SSSD, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS) and file sharing/integration services (Samba, NFS).
  • Expertise with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Red Hat Satellite, along with strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Perl, or C to support provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage systems (e.g., NetApp) and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technologies such as Horizon, Profile Unity, and NVIDIA GPU virtualization (NLS, DLS).
  • Proficiency with monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and compliance assessment tools (ACAS, Splunk, Nessus, SCAP, STIG, Nagios, SolarWinds).
  • Working knowledge of security frameworks (CMMC, NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS, DoD RMF).

Pay

The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
