About the role
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal/ Sr. Principal Engineer Electronics - Payloads to join their team in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo).
Responsibilities
- Evaluate Payload electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and testing products.
- Manage requirements, integrate systems, develop test plans, and execute tests throughout the development, demonstration, and production phases.
- Work on Stores Management Systems (SMS) / Suspension and Release Equipment (S&RE) related hardware and software requirements, and define, design, integrate, test, and certify these systems.
- Create detailed requirements specifications, statements of work, test plans and procedures, certification plans and procedures, performance reports, etc., related to governing standards like UAI Platform-Store ICD, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, AS5653, etc.
- Understand all system requirements, develop statements of work, specifications, and interface control documents, prepare, monitor, and update program schedules, conduct, and participate in design reviews, and provide technical guidance to the cross-functional team.
- Operate effectively in a team of engineers and technicians.
Requirements
- Principal: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
- Sr. Principal: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of related professional/military experience for Principal.
- Master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 6 years of related professional/military experience for Sr. Principal.
- Practical experience working with requirements management, system integration, test plan development, and test execution of a payload system.
- Experience and understanding of Universal Armament Interface (UAI) compliant MIL-STD-1760 Stores Management Systems (SMS), MIL-STD-1553 and Suspension and Release Equipment (S&RE).
- Active US Government Secret Clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
- Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of requirements management, system integration, test plan development, and test execution of a payload system.
- Understanding of Universal Armament Interface (UAI) compliant MIL-STD-1760 Stores Management Systems (SMS), MIL-STD-1553 and Suspension and Release Equipment (S&RE).
Benefits

- Travel up to 10% may be required.
Pay
- Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
- Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
Schedule
- This position requires full-time, on-site work at the Northrop Grumman facility.
