About the Role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration is seeking a Principal Scrum Master (Software Engineer) to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program. C2BMC is a vital operational system enabling the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders to plan, monitor, and control ballistic missile defense operations. This role involves serving as the Scrum Master for the C2BMC System Architecture (SA) Product Team, reporting directly to the Product Owner.

The Scrum Master will provide servant leadership to one of two Scrum teams within SA, ensuring smooth execution of Agile processes and ceremonies such as daily Scrum, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives. The role includes facilitating obstacle removal, monitoring progress, and assisting in planning upcoming work. During Program Increment (PI) planning, the Scrum Master will help organize work, decompose features, and oversee user story creation, collaborating closely with other Scrum Masters, technical leads, and management.

The Scrum Master is expected to spend approximately 70% of their time on technical work, with the remaining 30% allocated to Scrum ceremonies and responsibilities, excluding PI planning periods.

Responsibilities

• Lead Agile ceremonies (daily Scrum, backlog refinement, sprint planning, retrospectives) for the C2BMC System Architecture (SA) Product Team.
• Facilitate the removal of obstacles and monitor team progress to ensure timely delivery.
• Assist in decomposing features into user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria during PI planning.
• Collaborate with other Scrum Masters, technical leads, and management to clarify capabilities, dependencies, and schedules.
• Support software engineering efforts for Government programs, leveraging technical expertise in Java, CI/CD, and systems engineering.
• Utilize Earned Value Management System (EVMS) to track financial progress, either as a Control Account Manager (CAM) or through data analysis.
• Mentor and guide the Scrum team in Agile best practices and software development processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Scrum Master, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, with 5 years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; OR 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
• Current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance (required to start).
• Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Extensive experience supporting software engineering for Government programs.
• Previous experience as a software engineer, systems engineer, or in technical roles supporting software development teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and Scrum practices.
• Experience working with multiple Scrum teams and Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
• Experience as a technical lead or senior developer within a software development organization.
• Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), either as a CAM or in analyzing/interpreting EVMS data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control workflows, and automated testing.
• Experience decomposing Agile features into user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
• Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
• Experience leading Agile teams supporting complex Government-issued software systems.
• Agile coaching experience.
• Agile certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or Professional Scrum Master (PSM).
• Missile defense or related domain experience.

Pay

Primary salary range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00. Base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses.
