Principal Roadway Engineer
About the role
The District 2 Corridors Program Office is looking for a Principal Roadway Engineer to join their team in Jacksonville, FL. This is an embedded position that reports to the office 5 days per week. The role involves serving as a subject matter expert in delivering large and complex projects in District 2, from RFQ development to construction oversight. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of standards and design processes, as well as the ability to communicate these effectively to the project team and program.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource for the program
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of standards and design processes
- Provide efficient, high-quality reviews with quick turnaround times
- Actively participate in innovation meetings with designers and contractors
- Help drive project scope, technical direction, and innovation across all projects
- Communicate with engineers and coordinate research and plan reviews
Requirements
- Have a degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 15 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Be a professional engineer in good standing
- Be knowledgeable of applicable federal, state and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances
- Be proficient in production software and construction document production
- Have proven background and ability to make decisions that have significant impact to an organization, as well as recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results
- Be recognized as a thought leader in the industry and have experience leading the work of multiple disciplines and participating in and/or having decision-making on technical matters within discipline
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance
- Have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders
