About the Role
The Space Systems Directorate is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, program managers, and technicians developing spaceflight missions, spacecraft, spacecraft avionics systems, spacecraft payloads, and lighter-than-air systems. As part of this team, you will receive $500 on your first paycheck minus applicable taxes.
This role focuses on machining highly precise parts in an R&D facility in a quick and professional manner. You will work with a large variety of parts, from simple to extremely complicated, and materials ranging from ultra-thin-walled aluminum to robust and dense hi-alloy materials. You must be able to work collaboratively and take verbal instructions from mechanical engineers.
Responsibilities
- Be flexible and innovative to fabricate a multitude of prototype parts from different materials requiring various machining operations.
- Fabricate prototype and limited production machined parts for advanced research and development projects.
- Manufacture complex precision components using Advanced CNC Milling Machines and Lathes for spaceflight, DOD, and commercial applications.
- Set up and adjust quickly to various types of parts requiring both mill and lathe work.
- Modify existing parts requiring special setups and fixturing, with the ability to think outside the box.
- Inspect manufactured components to ensure they meet design and quality requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5-15+ years of experience operating Manual Milling Machines and Lathes with a good understanding of machine shop practices.
- 5-15+ years of experience programming CNC Milling Machines and Lathes, including the ability to estimate material, equipment, and hours needed to complete a job.
- Experience with Esprit CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software preferred.
- Valid/clear driver’s license.
