About the role

Eversource is seeking a Principal Estimator to lead estimating activities across its three-state area, particularly for major projects and competitive bid projects. The role requires a strong technical background and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Develops estimates for large projects, including FERC 1000 projects (over $10M).
  • Leads the estimate review process for competitive bid projects with the bid team.
  • Provides expert peer review of estimates prepared internally and by outside vendors.
  • Serves as an estimating team leader for major projects, groups of projects, or bids.
  • Supports standardization methods of cost estimating templates across the three-state territory.
  • Identifies and quantifies project risks and associated risk/contingency cost impacts.
  • Supports cost estimating tools and databases development.
  • Enhances internal and external customer satisfaction through strong communication skills.
  • Uses Microsoft Excel and other Eversource office automation systems effectively.

Requirements

Essential qualifications include:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the utility/construction industry, with four (4) years in one or more aspects of the job.
  • Transmission experience is strongly preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project estimating, or a related field is required.
  • An advanced degree in Engineering or Business Administration is desirable.
  • A focus in electrical engineering or estimating is preferred.
  • A registered professional engineer license (NH, MA, or CT preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experience working on competitive, high-stakes projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Skills

  • Expert commercial estimating background.
  • Comprehensive electric industry estimating knowledge.
  • Knowledge of transmission and substation power system planning, engineering, maintenance, and operations.
  • Ability to enhance internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to make formal presentations and translate technical information.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program, including a salary range of $138,260.00 - $153,620.00 annually, depending on experience. The company also provides an overview of their benefits programs on their careers site.

Schedule

The role can be based in either Hartford, CT or Westwood, MA.

Emergency Response
