Principal Engineer - Renewable Development
BHE Renewables delivers sustainable energy solutions for customers and communities. We own, operate, and develop wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and natural gas projects in 11 U.S. states. The power generated is sold into energy markets or directly to customers through long-term purchase agreements.
About the role
The principal engineer – renewable development will provide highly technical engineering services and direct the work of others for the planning, design, and construction of renewable energy projects. Assignments will frequently include all project phases, including overseeing and guiding staff in project development and design, resolution of complex engineering problems, design, engineering specifications, scheduling, project accounting (budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and cost control), materials procurement, and construction contracts.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced engineering services for the estimating, planning, design, and construction of renewable energy projects, including system planning, design specifications, maps and drawings, materials procurement, contract preparation, project management, and project accounting (budgeting, estimating, forecasting).
- Conduct advanced engineering studies and complex investigations; prepare oral and written reports of results and recommendations.
- Provide advanced engineering assistance to other departments; facilitate internal training classes for engineers and specialists.
- Develop presentations for senior management and professional/industry groups, author technical papers for publication by professional/industry organizations, chair company committees/task groups, and participate in industry standards committees.
- Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends and recommend and implement changes to benefit BHER's business.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training, and tools to prevent, detect, and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable development, and construction of projects.
- Evaluate, select, and apply advanced engineering techniques, criteria, and procedures; use judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
- Recognize, investigate, and solve complex and non-recurring problems relating to BHER’s project development and construction.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts. Provide timely feedback and information sharing. Exhibit good listening skills and ask questions to improve understanding.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- 15 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work of a specialist nature without a professional engineering license or 10 years of experience with a professional engineering license.
