Principal Engineer, Marketing Automation
Job Summary
As GoTo Foods continues to grow its presence and innovate within the foodservice industry, the need for a sophisticated, integrated marketing technology framework becomes a priority. We are looking for a skilled and innovative Principal Engineer, Marketing Automation and Orchestration to architect, implement, and manage our marketing automation and orchestration solution that drives our customer engagement and campaign orchestration strategies.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of marketing technologies, automation and orchestration solution for QSR/retail, hands-on technical expertise, and a passion for solving complex problems that bridge marketing and engineering.
Essential Functions
Marketing Automation
- Own, manage and optimize GTF’s marketing automation and orchestration platform.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to translate campaign strategies into technical implementation requirements and ensure seamless execution.
- Define the appropriate processes to design, build, and execute automated marketing campaigns, including email workflows, nurture tracks, and triggered communications, and work with the business to ensure processes are followed.
- Ensure the appropriate integrations are in place to enable the customer experience team to develop and maintain segmentation strategies for precise audience targeting based on customer behaviors, attributes, and lifecycle stages.
- Ensure that the marketing automation and orchestration stack is scalable, secure, and optimized for performance, delivering a seamless experience across all customer touchpoints.
- Ensure proper integration of marketing automation and orchestration tools with our CDP, Data Platform and other MarTech systems to enable data synchronization and comprehensive reporting, as a critical component in a cohesive marketing technology ecosystem.
Orchestration & Personalization
- Support multi-channel campaign orchestration by implementing centralized customer journey solutions.
- Enable advanced personalization through dynamic content, segmentation, and rule-based decisioning.
- Lead the implementation of a solution to enable the business to develop customer journey maps and design end-to-end orchestrated campaigns across multiple touchpoints (email, web, mobile, social, etc.).
- Create a roadmap for optimization, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment.
Technical Implementation and Optimization
- Oversee the end-to-end implementation of marketing automation programs, from technical setup to QA and deployment.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply fixes or enhancements to ensure smooth operation.
- Optimize workflows, journeys, and integrations for speed, efficiency, and customer experience impact.
- Drive UAT (User Acceptance Testing) processes for marketing automation implementations.
Data Management and Governance
- Establish and maintain best practices for data hygiene, synchronization, and governance across marketing platforms.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) by implementing appropriate processes for data collection, storage, and subscription/unsubscription management.
- Collaborate with CDP and analytics teams to structure and leverage customer data for reporting, segmentation, and personalization.
Cross-Team Leadership
- Act as the technical lead, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams, including customer engagement, product, IT, and analytics.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, bridging the gap between engineering and business teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and marketers on platform usage, workflow setup, and technical troubleshooting.
Technical Collaboration and Roadmap Execution
- Partner with Customer Experience, Digital, Data Science, and Data Engineering teams to ensure that marketing technologies are not only integrated but also utilize the full potential of our data and technical infrastructure.
- Translate product roadmaps into executable projects, aligning with the overall strategic vision and ensuring technical feasibility.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree, Preferred
Work Experience
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience in a technical role within marketing technology, with a deep understanding of the technical aspects of marketing automation, orchestration, loyalty platforms, CRM, digital analytics, and customer data platforms.
- No less than 7 years of proven hands-on experience implementing, integrating and optimizing Marketing Automation and Marketing Orchestration platforms such as Salesforce MarketingCloud, Marketo, HubSpot, or similar.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing the integration of complex, multi-faceted marketing technology solutions.
- Proven experience working with product managers and developing and executing a technical roadmap for loyalty and marketing technologies.
Skills
- Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the capability to articulate technical strategies and complex concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Data 360 experience preferred.
