About the role

As Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, oversight, and administrative processes for electrical design projects. This lead position ensures technical accuracy across all project phases, promotes Fluor’s competitiveness, and acts as a representative to the department. You will work on complex engineering assignments and mentor less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review estimates, schedules, progress reports, and workforce forecasts
• Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
• Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities
• Perform and check electrical calculations (short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable derating, cable pulling tension) using ETAP/SKM and manual techniques
• Prepare electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical bid evaluations for power transformers, medium/low voltage switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, large motors, electrowinning rectifiers, and power factor correction capacitors
• Assist the Lead Engineer with schedule, estimate, material forecasting, progress reporting, meetings, and procurement
• Perform self-checks of completed work and guide less experienced engineers
• Collaborate with project teams, clients, field personnel, procurement, permit, and subcontract activities
• Solve complex engineering problems and make independent recommendations
• Serve as Supervising Lead, providing guidance, supervision, and mentorship, including performance appraisal input
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Accredited four-year degree or global equivalent in Electrical Engineering
• Sixteen (16) years of work-related experience
• Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Attention to detail and time-effective work habits
• Professional registration and membership in a technical society (preferred)
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability, and cost of materials
• Experience with effort-hour estimating, staff forecasting, and managing large projects
• Project set-up, control-level scheduling, progress reporting, and project close-out
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentation software)

Skills

• Electrical calculations: short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable derating, cable pulling tension
• Solid working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC)
• Computer-aided (ETAP/SKM) and manual design techniques
• Reviewing electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical bid evaluations
• Assisting with schedule, estimate, material forecasting, progress reporting, meetings, and procurement
• Collaboration with project/client/field, procurement, permit, and subcontract activities
• Leading, coaching, and mentoring junior engineers

Preferred Qualifications

• FEL 1 through 3 experience in an EPC/EPCM environment
• Experience with international office collaboration
• Professional Engineering License

Pay

Salary range: $139,000 – $258,000. The market rate typically aligns with the mid-point of this range, with final salary determined by candidate qualifications, experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions.
