Principal Digital Program Manager

About the Role

Drive software project and program delivery for Caterpillar’s equipment management portfolio, leading foundational platform capabilities that power dealer and customer-facing applications. Partner cross-functionally with engineering, business, and application stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that improve fleet visibility, operational efficiency, and overall user experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure successful completion of projects, on-time, within budget, and error-free.
• Manage the planning and execution of project team members, including the project charter, communications, metrics, reporting, and the overall project plan and budget.
• Support various project teams and obtain/provide information from concept stage through prototype, pilot, implementation, and follow-up stages.
• Develop and produce project management schedules using professional tools and techniques.
• Manage reporting, tracking charts, checklists, and project scheduling software to delegate appropriately.
• Manage change and provide active leadership in timely decision-making.
• Create and maintain schedules detailing changes, timelines, costs, and affected components/functions.
• Work with team members from multiple disciplines and customers to establish completion dates.
• Monitor project progress, discuss problems with affected areas, and ensure appropriate personnel are informed.
• Recommend possible solutions and alternatives based on project challenges.

Requirements

• 8+ years of direct project management experience working with software engineering teams in an agile environment.
• Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of decision-making processes and tools; ability to analyze situations and reach productive decisions.
• Software Program Management: Knowledge of policies and techniques to manage related projects within a program.
• Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of structured methodologies for delivering and managing software products.
• Effective Communications: Ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas and information accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP certification desired.
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM) desired.
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps (formerly VSTS).
• Knowledge of Confluence desired.
• Knowledge of Power BI is desired.

Additional Details

This position requires the candidate to be based in Chicago, IL. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available for this position.

Pay

Summary pay range: $147,760.00 - $221,640.00. Compensation and benefits may vary depending on job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience.
