About the role
The Principal Digital Factory UX/UI Test Engineer leads UI/UX design, front-end testing, usability validation, and regression automation for Ignition-based applications, MES workflows, dashboards, and IIoT-enabled systems. The engineer partners with manufacturing engineers, software developers, and stakeholders to design intuitive user interfaces, validate operator workflows, prevent defects, and establish department-wide testing standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of modern, intuitive UI/UX for Ignition screens, MES workflows, dashboards, and digital factory applications.
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and final layouts using tools such as Figma and Ignition Designer.
- Establish consistent UX patterns, visual standards, and interaction guidelines for all CFI applications.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and stakeholders to ensure designs align with operator needs and manufacturing workflows.
- Own the front-end testing strategy for digital factory applications across CFI.
- Develop and execute structured test plans for usability, workflow accuracy, interface clarity, error-handling behavior, and navigation flow.
- Validate implementation fidelity between UX designs and deployed features.
- Conduct iterative UI/UX reviews and acceptance testing to prevent defects from entering production environments.
- Define testing best practices, templates, and guidelines for software engineers and stakeholders.
- Establish test case documentation standards, release readiness expectations, and UX validation processes.
- Train engineers on testing fundamentals, Azure DevOps workflows, defect triage, and UI/UX acceptance criteria.
- Build and maintain automated regression tests focused on front-end interactions, click-path validation, and navigation behavior.
- Use tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or similar Python-based automation frameworks to simulate user workflows.
- Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps pipelines and ensure consistent operation before releases.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- 8+ years of experience in UI/UX design, front-end testing, human-machine interfaces, or digital manufacturing systems.
- Experience designing user-centric interfaces using Figma, Ignition, or similar tools.
- Experience in front-end testing, UX validation, and test plan development.
- We prefer experience using Azure DevOps (or similar tools) for test management and defect tracking.
- Proficiency with Python and SQL for lightweight automation and validation scripting.
- Experience with automated UI testing tools (Selenium, Playwright, Robot Framework).
- Experience establishing testing standards or leading testing initiatives in engineering organizations.
- Experience with Ignition, MES systems, IIoT connectivity, or digital factory applications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing workflows, operator interfaces, and plant floor digital systems.
