Purpose of the Role

As a Principal, you will serve as the site-based leader of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage the policies, regulations, procedures, and CSUSA curriculum to ensure all students have a safe learning environment and receive instruction that meets or exceeds CSUSA standards.
  • Lead curriculum content and course development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, facilities operations, emergency procedures, and resource scheduling.
  • Develop and coordinate educational programs in accordance with CSUSA and state standards and guidelines.
  • Supervise the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Lead school-level planning of processes to ensure development, implementation, and evaluation of all school programs and activities.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluate lesson plans, and observe classes regularly to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with CSUSA guidelines.
  • Request and allocate supplies, equipment, and instructional materials as required in CSUSA guidelines.
  • Formulate student personnel policies within CSUSA guidelines.
  • Approve and provide supervision to extracurricular activities.
  • Provide regular opportunities for students to celebrate success in instructional programs and extracurricular activities.
  • Serve as Chief Administrator of School Plans, organize, and direct implementation of all school activities.
  • Work to achieve/sustain 100% of projected student enrollment capacity.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and stakeholders, foster cooperative relationships with CSUSA, colleges, community organizations, and represent the school at events and functions.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with students and staff.
  • Operate the school within the approved budget, collaborate to manage resources, prepare budgetary requests, and monitor expenditures.
  • Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Routinely tour the school to assess safety and security practices, observe instructional programs, document findings, and ensure timely follow-up on identified issues.
  • Plan and direct building maintenance.
  • Supervise all operations involving the management of the school, including school funds, payroll, purchases, inventories, and office operations.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and secure maintenance of all required school reports, student and personnel records, attendance, and compliance documentation.
  • Plan and supervise fire drills, emergency readiness programs, and ensure a safe school environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
  • Communicate with supervisor regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation and performance of the school.
  • Develop and manage schedules and procedures for supervision of students in non-classroom areas (arrival/dismissal, playgrounds, hallways, cafeterias), assign staff coverage, train supervisors on expectations and incident reporting, and ensure consistent enforcement of safety and behavior protocols.
  • Manage and administer CSUSA workers compensation program.
  • Follow policy for the school's abuse posting requirements.
  • Adhere to statutory, regulatory, and CSUSA hiring guidelines, including completing background checks, contacting references, and verifying employment history.

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Motivate staff to achieve school objectives.
  • Communicate with staff and be responsive to their workplace-related needs.
  • Evaluate performance of staff and provide ongoing performance feedback.
  • Counsel staff on inappropriate behavior and violations of CSUSA policies and practices.
  • Adhere to Human Resources policies and practices.
  • Notify appropriate CSUSA personnel of serious employee violations.
  • Maintain a productive and positive employee climate.
  • Select and hire school staff, including teachers and school-based support staff.
  • Adhere to statutory, regulatory, and CSUSA hiring guidelines, including completing background checks, contacting references, and verifying employment history.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Confer with Board Members and respond appropriately to issues that arise.
  • Articulate the school's vision, values, and goals and model those values.
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local K-12 education requirements and charter school law preferred.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (MA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Professional Certification in Educational Leadership for the applicable state.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience (in school administration preferred) and/or training.
  • Experience in student instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a school community toward improved academic achievement.
  • Computer literacy skills; proficient in Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; Student Information System (SIS).
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
