Principal, AI Strategy & Engineering Transformation
About the Role
Vantor is seeking a Principal, AI Strategy & Engineering Transformation leader to turn AI from experimentation into a repeatable, secure, and measurable engineering capability. This hands-on principal individual-contributor role operates across Engineering, Product, Security, Compliance, IT, Infrastructure, Procurement, HR, and senior leadership, connecting emerging AI technology to practical developer workflows and enterprise operating models.
Responsibilities
- AI Strategy & Developer Tooling: Define and maintain Vantor's strategy, roadmap, and investment priorities for AI-assisted software engineering. Evaluate AI development tools and recommend primary tools, approved patterns, and exception paths.
- AI Workflow Development & Implementation: Design, prototype, and validate AI-assisted workflows for coding, testing, documentation, and more. Build practical solutions using modern AI tooling and APIs.
- Engineering Workflow & Platform Transformation: Identify opportunities for AI and automation in software delivery workflows. Redesign workflows and lead foundational changes to improve engineering delivery.
- Pioneer, Champion & Adoption Programs: Run structured pilots, translate successful pilots into reusable playbooks, and build adoption through embedded Pioneer and Champion networks.
- Secure, Responsible & Scalable AI: Partner with Security, Compliance, and other teams to establish practical governance and approved AI usage patterns.
- Measurement & Executive Decision Support: Define success measures, collect evidence, and turn pilot results into clear recommendations for leadership.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, developer platforms, technical product/program leadership, engineering enablement, or enterprise technology transformation.
- Hands-on experience building AI-assisted workflows, agents, prototypes, or integrations with modern generative-AI tools.
- Strong understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, including Git-based workflows, CI/CD, testing, and secure development practices.
- Ability to use programming, scripting, APIs, and automation tooling to build prototypes and workflows.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing without direct authority.
- Working knowledge of enterprise security, data governance, and responsible AI.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying AI tools in regulated or restricted environments.
- Experience with AI coding assistants, agent frameworks, or local inference.
- Experience building Champion networks or enterprise change programs.
- Experience with developer-productivity measurement or platform-value assessment.
- Experience with GitHub Enterprise governance, cloud platforms, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience supporting vendor evaluation and procurement.
Pay
The base pay for this position varies by location:
- Colorado, New Jersey, Delaware, California: $150,000.00 - $220,000.00 annually
- Washington, DC metropolitan area: $165,000.00 - $242,000.00 annually
Pay is based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, location, and market conditions.
