About the Role

Incumbent performs all tasks necessary to obtain necessary authorizations, verify the patient has a source of funding to cover services, and schedule patients for surgery. Responds to patient inquiries and resolves any identified issues. Responsibilities

  • Obtain necessary authorizations for patient services
  • Verify patient funding sources to cover services
  • Schedule patients for surgery
  • Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues

Requirements

  • Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling systems
  • General understanding of medical terminology
  • Customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Ability to travel to off-site physician practices
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing
  • General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission standards
  • Experience with Epic
  • Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
