About the role

Tutors in our primary school program support scholars in reaching their full potential by working with students in grades 3 through 5. Tutors provide individualized and small group instruction in math, reading, and blended learning, helping scholars become independent learners by developing their critical thinking skills and elevating their confidence.

Positions funded by the Charter School Growth Fund grant are not guaranteed to be available beyond Spring 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective lesson plans tailored to address each student's specific needs and learning styles in math and reading.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods to improve students' foundational skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Conduct regular assessments to track student progress and adjust tutoring plans accordingly.
  • Collaborate with teachers, PYP deans, and Curriculum and Instructional Specialists to ensure a cohesive learning experience for each student.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that motivates students and builds their confidence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Bachelor's Degree preferred; may substitute equivalent work experience).
  • Previous work with children preferred but not required.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills are a plus.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Teams, Word, PowerPoint).

Skills

  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours may be necessary.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use stairs, and perform light lifting (up to 30 pounds).
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment may have low to high noise levels with frequent interruptions and activity from other employees and students that could be distracting.

Pay

$19.80 per hour

Schedule

8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
