Primary Care Physician - Veterans Health

About the role

This part-time position (3 days per week) is located at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Stuart, FL. As a Primary Care Physician, you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients with diseases and injuries. You will collaborate with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN, and Medical Assistant) and the expanded PACT Team, including family/caregiver, VA, and community-based services, to develop patient care plans.

Responsibilities

• Actively diagnose and treat veterans.
• Examine patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determine the nature and extent of injury/disorder, and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
• Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in providing continuity of care.
• Order and perform diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
• Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance.
• Evaluate patients’ records from medical providers outside the VA and work with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
• Complete all clinical reminders “due” at the time of each patient visit.
• Document the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
• Solicit medical management consult or input when appropriate.
• Comply with all VA guidelines regarding timely response to patient requests, alerts, notifications, consults, orders, lab results, and diagnostic studies.
• Comply with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
• Serve as a collaborative physician to mid-level providers where appropriate and needed.
• Comply with all VA guidelines for timely clinical documentation, including completing all encounters by close of business.
• Address the clinical needs of all walk-in, triage, and urgent care patients.
• Comply with all VA and company training requirements.
• Comply with VA requirements related to women’s health certification and competencies, including maintenance of such certification.
• Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance, and other related items.
• Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through VA guidelines.
• Provide excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and clinic visitors, both in person and over the phone.
• Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.
• Support patient enrollment and retention by providing guidance on scheduling, follow-up visits, or nurse visits.
• Embrace and support new clinical or operational initiatives and execute key strategic initiatives driving Valor’s success.

Requirements

• 4+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred.
• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree.
• Board certified in family practice or internal medicine.
• Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
• Must comply with and maintain all requirements for a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment or any U.S. state/territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) as specified by individual VAMC contract.
• Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Energetic and optimistic demeanor with a strong service mentality.
