About the Role

Assists the physician and office staff with selected duties to include clerical processing, patient preparation, scheduling, lab, x-ray, and medical records. Performs patient care activities consistent with established standards of clinical practice. Integrates Mercy’s philosophy of caring for the sick and suffering, respecting human life and dignity, and applying Christian values into daily work.

In communicating with patients, families, visitors, and employees, a caring, friendly, personal, and professional approach is expected. Performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for visit with provider by completing Advanced Standard room process, including:
    • Entering the chief complaint
    • Taking patient vital signs; reviewing patient history and allergies
    • Completing a thorough medication reconciliation
    • Working the Encounter Guide, including closing open care gaps (e.g., fall risk, depression screening, breast cancer screening, colorectal cancer screening, diabetic eye exam)
    • Rechecking elevated blood pressures
    • Completing needed documentation in Epic for yearly preventative visits
  • Assists with in-office testing, including drawing blood, mental status exams, EKGs, walking oxygen studies, and point-of-care testing.
  • Administers vaccines and other injections within scope of practice.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments per office policy.
  • Collaborates with providers and clinical care team to monitor and coordinate delivery of the care plan.

Requirements & Qualifications

Primary Care Assistant - Medical Assistant

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification: Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Preferred Experience: 6 months of clinical healthcare experience, preferably in a primary care office.

Primary Care - Certified Medical Assistant

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification: Must have active Medical Assistant certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA). Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Education: Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Licensure: Active LPN licensure.
  • Preferred Experience: 6 months of clinical healthcare experience, preferably in a primary care office.

Schedule

40 hours per week, Days. Location: Creve Coeur - Mercy STL Towers A&B.
