Responsibilities
- Evaluates and treats patients/clients (including walk-ins) within licensed scope of practice using the ASAM model
- Evaluates and treats mental illness and substance abuse, treats or appropriately refers patients, for specialty evaluation and treatment, provides preventive health/lifestyle advice and case management, and provides consultation to other staff
- Participates in multi-disciplinary, team-based care of patients/clients
- Provides consultation to other members of primary care and behavioral health care teams
- Participates in training, reporting, and other requirements of various grant supported programs implemented by St. Peter’s Health
- Independently completes Substance Use Disorder Assessments and additional applicable screenings and assessment to help client/patient identify psychological problems and develop treatment plan, goals and action plan to improve coping skills
- Provides emotional and mental health psychotherapy to groups and individuals
- Individualizes the treatment plan according to the assessment of patient/family and age, developmental level or level of disability
- Demonstrates skill in documenting appropriate information on the medical record in a clear, concise, logical, specific and thorough manner
- Helps facilitate patient and family understanding of patient’s clinical status through individual and/or group conferences
- Makes referrals to a variety of social services and medical resources as needed
- Demonstrates pro-active communication to advocate on behalf of the patient and organizational stakeholders
- Uses interpersonal skills which convey a positive and supportive attitude (e.g., active listening, good communication, telephone etiquette)
- Utilizes American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-VR) criteria when making recommendations
- Participates in departmental functions
- Works with coding department to understand billing principles
- Works in harmony and unison with all personnel within the department and throughout St Peter’s Health system
- Participates in the formation and evaluation of applicable protocols
- Believes in and strives for continuous process improvement
- Promotes and assists in the smooth, efficient delivery of departmental services to patients and physicians
- Completes and/or attends all required educational offerings annually
- Demonstrates the ability to manage time, coordinate departmental functions and promote departmental and professional growth
Qualifications
- 1-3 years’ experience of related clinical experience required
- Experience in the field of substance abuse counseling in an outpatient/ambulatory setting preferred
- B.S. in Human Services or related field required
- Master’s degree in alcohol and drug studies (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university required
- Montana Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license required; Addiction Counselor Licensure Candidate (ACLC) required
