About the role

Prices and merchandises departmental or furniture items to achieve maximum value. Maintains merchandise on the sales floor, ensuring an adequate supply of seasonal items by sorting and storing out-of-season merchandise. Reports directly to the assistant store manager or the store manager.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves assigned department’s sales targets by:
    • Reviewing department sales targets weekly with the store manager and supervisor.
    • Maintaining target price per item.
    • Using the price grid as a guideline in departments.
  • Supplies the store with merchandise by sorting, hanging, and pricing donations for assigned departments.
  • Displays merchandise in designated area(s) on the sales floor.
  • Ensures an adequate quantity of merchandise is available daily in assigned departments according to performance standards.
  • Maintains a clean and stocked production department with materials readily available.
  • Adjusts merchandise prices up or down to achieve maximum value, particularly when items are not selling or selling too quickly.
  • Keeps the sales floor shoppable by ragging, balancing, and rotating seasonal merchandise.
  • Ensures an adequate supply of seasonal merchandise by recognizing, storing, and labeling it properly.
  • Assists with customer service, including providing written receipts for furniture purchases and addressing mattress inquiries.
  • Accepts donations and provides donors with a receipt for tax purposes.
  • Cleans the furniture area daily, removing dust, broken items, non-saleable goods, and damaged merchandise.
  • Allows 10 minutes before quitting time for sweeping and cleaning up the work area.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed, which may include tasks outside the primary area of employment.

  • Knowledge of styles and trends.
  • Ability to identify merchandise quality and price it competitively.
  • Ability to assess merchandise required for assigned departments.
  • Ability to recognize when to reduce prices to sell merchandise.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers and present a positive company image.
  • Ability to write receipts and communicate clearly with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a team.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce, including individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and good listening ability.
  • Energy to handle fast-paced work and use good judgment.

Physical Demands

  • Works inside in a production and retail environment with exposure to temperature fluctuations and occasional dust from donations.
  • Regularly required to speak, hear, stand, and move throughout the store.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds (furniture role) or 20 pounds (general role) using upper body strength.
  • Constantly standing, bending, stooping, and walking; occasionally pushing or pulling clothing racks weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift arms shoulder height or above.
