Prevention Nurse Specialist
Overview
Sentara Health Plans is hiring a Prevention Nurse Specialist- Richmond, Virginia. This is a PRN position, hours may vary (generally 8am-5pm). Position area is located in Richmond, Virginia (NOVA, Williamsburg south to Hampton).
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or multistate license (MSL))
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or non-degree RN diploma
- BLS Certification
- Minimum 5 years' experience working as a registered nurse
- Active, unrestricted driver’s license required for regional travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in community nursing
- Experience in health prevention and/or health education
- Experience providing care to patients with diabetes or cardiac risk factors
Primary responsibilities
We are seeking an engaging and mission-driven health professional to deliver high-quality community and workplace wellness initiatives. In this role, you will contribute to a variety of health screenings and immunization events designed to empower individuals to take charge of their well-being. You will conduct one-on-one preventive screenings, including blood pressure assessments and fingerstick biometric testing, while using motivational interviewing and patient-centered communication to help participants understand their results and take meaningful steps toward reducing cardiovascular and lifestyle-related risks. As a trusted health partner, you’ll provide personalized guidance on key wellness topics such as tobacco cessation, adult immunizations, heart health, cancer prevention and early detection, and effective self-care practices. You will also administer seasonal influenza vaccinations in alignment with clinical standards and safety protocols.
