Prevention and Education Coordinator (Student Services Professional IV)

About the Department
The Office for Civil Rights and Equity within the Division of Human Resources and Inclusive Excellence is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Prevention and Education Coordinator (Student Services Professional IV). This role advances our ongoing commitment to foster and maintain a campus environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. We are searching for a driven, proactive, and ethically minded individual to assist with the prevention and investigation of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and assess evidence-based prevention and education programs, initiatives, and awareness campaigns designed to prevent sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, retaliation, and discrimination or harassment based on protected statuses (age, disability, gender, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, nationality, pregnancy, race/ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran/military status).
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Office for Civil Rights and Equity’s campus-wide strategic prevention and education plan in accordance with federal and state laws and CSU policies.
- Create training materials, deliver presentations, and design tailored outreach to educate students and employees on their rights, options, responsibilities, and resources related to Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and CSU policies.
- Conduct annual trainings for fraternities, sororities, Division I Athletics teams and employees, sports clubs, residential communities, identified student organizations, employees and student staff responsible for responding to alleged misconduct, and underserved populations.
- Develop community-wide and audience-specific primary prevention efforts, including bystander intervention programs, educational outreach, awareness programs, workshops, events for critical awareness months, and an annual one-day violence prevention conference.
- Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners, developing solutions to complex technical and administrative matters.
- Carry out independent and collaborative work to engage student and employee audiences, use discretion in delivering sensitive training materials, and analyze operational challenges.
- Supervise and/or advise undergraduate and graduate student assistants and peer educators in programmatic and operational responsibilities.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for program improvements.
- Participate in on-campus, CSU systemwide, and community-based committees addressing discrimination, harassment, and related issues.
- Remain informed on Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and related laws, campus and CSU policies, and best practices for trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive prevention education.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field, plus upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
- Four years of professional student services work experience, including advising students individually and in groups, and analyzing/resolving complex student services problems.
- A master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a related field may substitute for one year of professional experience.
- A doctoral degree with appropriate internship/clinical training in a relevant field may substitute for two years of professional experience.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of the assigned program area or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
- General knowledge of Student Services programs, public administration principles, and advanced statistical/research methods.
- Ability to carry out complex assignments without detailed instructions, advise students on sensitive matters, and analyze/solve organizational problems.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement administrative decisions, establish cooperative working relationships, and persuade others to accept different viewpoints.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of full-time professional experience in public health, violence prevention, advocacy, student services, social work, or education.
- Experience working within a higher education environment.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, Clery, and California/CSU prevention education requirements.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid California driver’s license.

- A background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU may rescind a conditional offer if the check reveals disqualifying information or if the candidate withheld/falsified information.
- This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act, requiring CSA training and reporting of Clery Act crimes.
- Applicants must disclose any final administrative or judicial decision determining they committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years (after qualifying for the position).
- The person holding this position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.

Pay
Classification range: $6,320 - $9,014 per month. Hiring range: $6,320 - $6,994 per month (depending on qualifications).
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
