About the role

We have an opening for a highly motivated individual in the Gannett corporation at one of our regional print facilities. This is a fast-paced manufacturing operation requiring basic mechanical and/or manufacturing skill sets.

The Wilmington GPS group is looking for a full-time Press Supervisor to assist with daily production on our Goss HO presses. The work includes supervising the team who prepare the presses for production, operate the presses or any of their components, clean the presses and the pressroom, maintain the mechanical readiness of the presses, and other duties as assigned.

Every member of the pressroom staff constantly strives to achieve the following goals, and the contribution of every press operator is necessary for success:

• Optimum quality of printed products
• Observance of all scheduled start and stop times
• Conservation of material resources, especially newsprint
• A clean and safe working environment

Responsibilities

• Supervise team members in press preparation, operation, and cleaning
• Maintain mechanical readiness of presses
• Ensure adherence to production schedules and quality standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent
• Three years’ experience in web offset printing is desirable, though production experience of any kind may be helpful
• Mechanical ability and familiarity with computers preferred
• Ability to adapt to change, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, remain flexible, and interact with people while demonstrating patience
• Must be able to lift/carry up to 100 pounds and push/pull up to 2000 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs on a six-level press structure, and perform tasks requiring stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in confined areas
• Color vision is required

Schedule

This position is full-time shift work, which may include scheduled nights and weekends.

Pay

Up to $40 per hour based on work-related experience.
