Position Summary
Affords assistance to teaching staff with various duties in preschool classrooms in compliance with grant standards, childcare licensing regulations, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), OCDC's policies and procedures, and other applicable standards. Assists in maintaining a healthy and safe classroom environment.
Essential Functions
- Supports teaching staff in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing preschool classroom environment
- Supervises preschool-age children in classrooms and on playgrounds using positive guidance techniques
- Aids in daily routines, including toileting, dressing, meals, and transitions to and from the classroom
- Helps implement daily classroom activities such as free play, story time, and learning centers
- Maintains classroom cleanliness, including disinfecting toys and furniture and replenishing supplies
- Communicates respectfully and positively with children, families, and staff
- Aids in dual language classroom activities, as applicable
- Aids with basic record keeping and classroom documentation as assigned
- Provides classroom coverage to maintain child-to-teacher ratios during staff breaks or short absences (as qualifications allow)
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements
- No prior education or experience is required for this position.
- Preschool Instructional Assistant - $17.00-$19.36 hourly ($19.17-$21.30 hourly in Metro locations)
- Within 4 months from date of hire, must meet Oregon Early Learning Division's requirements for a preschool Teacher Aide II.
- Preschool Instructional Assistant - $18.47-$20.52 hourly ($22.27 hourly in Metro locations)
- Mets Oregon Early Learning Division's requirements for a preschool Teacher.
- Preschool Instructional Assistant - $19.58-$21.76 hourly ($22.67-$23.93 hourly in Metro locations)
- High School Diploma, GED, or Diploma de Educacion Secundaria AND Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate; or 1 year Oregon community college certificate (college certificate is equivalent to ORO step 8 in field) WITH training or coursework in early childhood development with a focus on development of preschool age children
- Metro locations include Washington County and Multnomah County sites.
- Placement within the range is determined by factors such as relevant experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity.
