Preschool Assistant Director - Howard County
About the role
The Y Assistant Preschool Director contributes to the Y's mission by assisting the Preschool Director with the overall operations of a Y preschool center. This includes providing administrative support, ensuring compliance with Y standards, Maryland Office of Childcare (OCC) regulations, and accreditation requirements. The role involves regular interaction and communication with children, parents, and associates to resolve issues and assess participant needs. Responsibilities also include ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of enrolled children, creating a nurturing environment for their development, and participating in various staff meetings, events, and training sessions.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Preschool Director with center operations
- Provide administrative support
- Ensure compliance with Y standards, OCC regulations, and accreditation requirements
- Communicate with children, parents, and associates to resolve issues and assess needs
- Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of enrolled children
- Create a nurturing environment for children's development
- Participate in staff meetings, special events, parent-teacher conferences, and training sessions
Requirements
- Enthusiasm for young children

- Good judgment and a good spirit
- The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
- At least 1 year of childcare management experience in a preschool classroom environment
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree in early childhood (preferred)
- 90-hour child care certification
