Preschool Assistant Director
About the role
The Y Assistant Preschool Director contributes to the Y's mission by assisting the Preschool Director with the overall operations of a Y preschool center. This includes providing administrative support, ensuring compliance with Y standards, Maryland Office of Childcare (OCC) regulations, and accreditation requirements. The role involves regular interaction and communication with children, parents, and associates to resolve issues and assess participant needs. Responsibilities also include ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of enrolled children and creating an environment conducive to their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Preschool Director with daily operations
- Ensure compliance with Y standards, OCC regulations, and accreditation requirements
- Communicate regularly with children, parents, and associates to address concerns and assess needs
- Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of enrolled children
- Create an environment that fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child
- Participate in staff meetings, special events, parent-teacher conferences, and training sessions
Requirements
- Enthusiasm for young children

- Good judgment and a good spirit
- The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
- At least 1 year of childcare management experience in a preschool classroom environment
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree in early childhood (preferred)
- 90-hour child care certification
Qualifications

- Experience in a childcare management role
- Communication and listening skills
- Education in early childhood (preferred)
- Child care certification
