Preregistration Representative

About the role
Presbyterian is hiring a Preregistration Representative. This position uses reports and data from various Scheduling Systems to create accounts in the Hospital Information System. The role acts as the gatekeeper to validate and verify demographic and insurance information updated into the Hospital Information System from various sources, including physician offices, the Hospital Information System, and the patient. The position provides support to other areas in Patient Access as needed.
Type of Opportunity: Full time, non-exempt. Job is based at Lincoln County Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Creates scheduled inpatient admission accounts, including obstetric admissions, inpatient and outpatient surgery accounts, series accounts such as Rehabilitation Services, Infusion and/or outpatient Behavioral Services, radiology, and cardiopulmonary diagnostic studies accounts in the Hospital Information System from Scheduling Systems or other scheduling methods.
- Validates and verifies demographics with the patient, physician, or other entity by placing outgoing calls, using the Hospital Information System, or other means when appropriate.
- Researches patient phone numbers if not available by contacting the referring physician’s office, searching past accounts, and using phone directories if necessary.
- Reviews all outstanding discharged patient accounts prior to phoning the patient to ensure necessary follow-up and closure of previous accounts before a new visit begins.
- Contacts patients to complete pre-registration, collect defined minimum data set (including patient demographic and other identification data, insurance, or other third-party payer information).
- Pre-registers accounts in accordance with departmental Documentation Standards, ensuring patient demographic, financial, and insurance information is documented clearly, concisely, consistently, thoroughly, and accurately.
- Researches inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent information in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Selects appropriate insurance plan codes for patient accounts.
- Provides a high level of customer service when dealing with patients, their families, departments, and divisions.
- Communicates with patients in a confidential, professional manner using tact and diplomacy.
- Provides high-quality work without direct supervision.
- Adheres to department Quality Review process and performs extensive follow-up as accounts are processed to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Adheres to department productivity expectations as outlined.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- College-level course completion preferred or equivalent experience.
- Healthcare work experience preferred.
- Three to five years of customer service experience preferred.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with the public as well as all levels of staff and management within the organization.
- Requires exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
- Basic Excel experience preferred for monthly reporting requirements.
- Typing required; ten-key preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
Pay
Compensation pay range: $16.37 – $24.89 per hour.
Schedule
Work Shift: Weekday, Monday–Friday.
