About the Role
The Prep Associate ensures the safety, quality, and accurate preparation of product ingredients using measuring tools and scales. This role involves cooking, batching, ingredient transfer, documentation, cleaning, and changeovers to produce high-quality food products while complying with food safety standards, HACCP requirements, and operational control protocols.
Responsibilities
- Accurately measure and weigh product ingredients using spoons, cups, and scales.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance; accurately record daily time records.
- Ensure food safety and ingredient integrity by checking allergen labels, expiration dates, and lot traceability.
- Inspect tools prior to use, prevent cross-contamination, and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Escalate issues such as food product problems, safety hazards (e.g., steam leaks, platform slips), and equipment concerns to the Lead.
- Support line operation documentation, including AC-1 forms, job tickets, cleaning records, CCP2 documentation, Gemba boards, changeover checklists, and 5S standards.
- Comply with all Safety, GMP, and Quality standards, including proper PPE usage, safe lifting techniques, LOTO awareness, and incident reporting.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to enter data into a computer and/or tablet.
- Proficiency in basic math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and measurements.
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and allergen control (preferred).
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment or industrial kitchen setting (preferred).
- Understanding of biological, chemical, and physical contamination risks, including listeria growth on floors/platforms (preferred).
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Physical Demands
- Frequent physical exertion, including lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
- Extensive standing, verbal communication, and repetitive motion (bending, hands/wrists, arms, reaching).
- Climbing and balancing (e.g., stairs).
Mental & Visual Demands
- Regular concentration required to execute moderately complex tasks.
- Proficiency in basic math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and measurements.
- Clear visual capabilities required for long periods.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, damp, and warm-temperature production environment with exposure to heat, cold, dust, or minor inconveniences.
- Some exposure to hazards that may cause minor injury.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, days, weekends, or overtime as required.
