PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse - ASC Full-Time

About the Role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction and utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and post-operative planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care; ensures goals are realistic, measurable, and developed with patient/family input.
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Plans care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and reviews/revises the plan to reflect changing patient needs.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensures documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response.
• Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to society through activities leading to excellent patient outcomes (timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care).
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
• May provide relief charge duties for staff and workflow management of the department.
• Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, as well as professional standards.
• Provides excellent service by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to pediatric services.

Qualifications

• Full-Time/Part-Time (Core): Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU (e.g., ICU, ED).
• New Licensed RN (with no PreOp/PACU experience): Must be enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
• PRN: Minimum two years licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU.

Preferred Qualifications

• PreOp/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.
