Preconstruction Estimator

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, and narratives to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns.
• Develop conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates with clear assumptions and inclusions.
• Aid in soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness and competitiveness.
• Collaborate with design teams and internal staff to clarify scope gaps and identify constructability issues.
• Maintain organized estimate clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and design development logs.
• Support value engineering analyses to identify cost-saving alternatives and design efficiencies.
• Utilize and/or update cost databases, labor rates, and subcontractor pricing information.
• Assist in preparing bid summaries, proposal narratives, and GMP packages.
• Collaborate with project controls to align cost, schedule, and contingency assumptions.
• Support presentations and pursuit deliverables for new business opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of estimating experience within the commercial construction industry or related.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of building systems, assemblies, and construction sequencing.
• Proficiency with estimating software (Onscreen, ACC, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Excel.
• Facility with AI based quantity survey or estimating tools desired.
• Ability to interpret drawings, perform takeoffs, and communicate cost impacts clearly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
• Familiarity with GMP, design-assist, and negotiated delivery methods preferred.

Pay

We offer an annual salary range of $120,000 to $140,000 for this position in Boston.

Schedule

This is a full-time position based in our Winchester office.
