Essential Functions

Affords nursing care to patients in a same day surgery setting. Takes full responsibility for patient care in line with physician orders and center policies.

  • Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidentiality.
  • Administers medications and treatments as per physician's orders.
  • Carefully monitors and controls supply usage and charges.
  • Documents and reports all symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' conditions.
  • Provides psychological support to patients and families.
  • Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments involved in patient care.
  • Accurately admits patients to the sit-up area.
  • Accurately performs routine charging of medications and supplies.
  • Keeps charge sheets accurate for supplies used on patients.
  • Functions independently during emergency situations.
  • Makes logical, quick decisions based on sound judgment.
  • Maintains competence through ongoing education.
  • Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.

Supervision Received

From the Supervisor of Clinical Services.

Education/Experience

  • Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse License.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • ASCRS (American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists) experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Accurately assesses the need for pain and/or nausea medication.
  • Always follows orders before administering medication.
  • Knows the intended actions and side effects of medications.
  • Documents medication administration accurately.
  • Provides psychological support to patients and families.
  • Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments involved in patient care.
  • Accurately admits patients to the sit-up area.
  • Accurately performs routine charging of medications and supplies.
  • Keeps charge sheets accurate for supplies used on patients.
  • Functions independently during emergency situations.
  • Makes logical, quick decisions based on sound judgment.
  • Maintains competence through continuing education.
  • Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.
