PRC CSC Semiconductor Manager

About the role

In this role, you will focus primarily on new coating applications, coating modifications, process development, customer project management, and advanced analysis. This position is accountable for providing leadership to accomplish technical initiatives aligned with the Precision Components Semiconductor coating business. You will convert strategic customer needs into safe, commercially viable, high-quality solutions that meet cost and timing targets. This role supports and manages R&D projects related to the development of new processes and coatings for the semiconductor market. While collaboration with cross-functional teams is required, this role carries no managerial oversight.

Responsibilities

• Create and execute plans in collaboration with Sales and Operations to increase the introduction of new coating technologies and processes that help profitably expand the company’s geographic and industrial footprint.
• Interact with Product Managers to provide technical solutions while ensuring customer requirements are fully understood.
• Develop and foster customer relationships to obtain a good understanding of customer requirements and objectives.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for key semiconductor customers.
• Lead the implementation of sampling and prototype projects from inception to production.
• Responsible for the technical realization of all process steps including coating, testing, fixturing, cleaning, and other pre- and post-treatments.
• Perform R&D activities to develop and transfer new coatings and processes to production. Must be able to move technologies developed in R&D to production level.
• Manage the process qualification and acceptance testing of new process equipment locally.
• Provide training and guidance to newly hired engineers employed at Oerlikon semiconductor product coating sites.
• Assist service technicians with equipment-related troubleshooting when required.
• Work with outside vendors to establish technical specifications for new equipment related to coating processes as well as upgrades to existing coating equipment.
• Give input on improvements to existing production processes and procedures.
• Work with drafting and engineering (CSC) group, assisting with mechanical design of fixturing and process-related equipment needed for semiconductor products.
• Analyze new coatings and troubleshoot quality issues related to coating processes using characterization techniques.
• Provide formal reports to customers detailing development, failure analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Follow Oerlikon GATE processes and documentation. Help resolve quality and production process-related issues as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience in PVD/PACVD or surface treatment technologies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline (graduate degree may substitute experience).
• Ability and experience in project planning to support products and customers’ needs.
• Broad R&D and commercialization experience from concept to product launch.
• Strong PVD and PACVD process knowledge.
• Proficient in Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology.
• Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with SEM, EDX, hardness testing equipment, and profilometry.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings; experience with Inventor beneficial.
• Self-driven with strong communication and presentation skills.
• Project management experience.
• Strong collaboration across cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with the following tools and systems:
  • SAP – order entry and tracking
  • Salesforce – opportunity sampling
  • Inventor – fixture design
  • ProPlan – project and time management
  • Laboratory tools – SEM, EDX, hardness testers, adhesion testing, profilometry
• Ability to understand and interpret technical requirements (e.g., technical drawings, prints).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
• Good communication with diverse individuals across various backgrounds and education levels.
• Proficiency in MS Office required.
• Travel up to 20% (U.S., Taiwan, Japan, Europe) for Oerlikon sites, customer support, and trade shows.
• Semiconductor industry experience preferred.

Pay

For individuals assigned, hired to work, or working remotely in/out of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, Washington State, Massachusetts, or New York City, the estimated compensation range for this position is $99,440 to $149,160 per year. Some positions may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected will be based on factors including internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, and certifications.
