Practical Nursing Instructor

About the Role

Teaches courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and follows the approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the department faculty. Provides direct supervision of students in a clinical setting and participates in professional development activities that support evidenced-based learning in the classroom and the clinical setting.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing; Master's in Nursing preferred
• Three (3) years clinical experience working as a registered nurse; or two (2) years experience as faculty in a nursing program/allied health program
• An unencumbered license as an RN in Mississippi
• Satisfy clinical agency requirements (e.g., background checks, immunizations, CPR, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains professional relationships within the nursing field, staying current with trends to ensure teaching methods and techniques remain relevant
• Participates in faculty-led development of course objectives, curriculum evaluation, and revision of policy and procedures manual
• Assists in student recruitment for the program
• Maintains student records of attendance, grades, and progress
• Assists with student registration and pre-registration
• Follows approved course of study and lesson plans
• Prepares and delivers classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical instruction
• Collaborates with the Director of Practical Nursing on curriculum development, syllabi preparation, and textbook selection
• Supervises students in clinical settings, including care plans, concept maps, skills development, and evaluations
• Attends faculty meetings with the Director of Practical Nursing and Dean for Health Sciences
• Communicates with program director and instructors regarding student concerns, issues, and progress
• Maintains and files student records in a timely manner
• Serves on department and campus committees
• Recommends library and instructional materials, equipment, and program supplies
• Keeps the director informed of any problems with students or faculty
• Observes scheduled class periods as approved by the director
• Assists in organizational and advisory committee meetings
• Observes college regulations, policies, and programs, enforcing them as required
• Reports in writing any problems detrimental to the institution
• Works a minimum of 35 hours per week on campus during fall and spring semesters (proportional for less-than-full-time faculty)
• Sets aside a minimum of 6 hours per week for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance
• Participates in staff development, professional associations, presentations, consulting, and similar activities
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Practical Nursing/Lead Instructor

Schedule

Full-time, exempt position. Works a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters.
